What a painter does

A painter prepares and paints the walls and ceilings of homes, shops and shared buildings: filling cracks, skimming, removing gotelé and applying as many coats as needed. Jobs are quoted per square metre, and what moves the price most is the state of the walls and whether the home is empty or furnished.

    An 80 m² flat in white, with walls in good condition and two coats: between 800 and 1,000 €.

  • Painting a room

    A room with 10 m² of floor space costs 100–220 € for the walls alone; ceilings and dark colours are extra.

  • Removing gotelé

    Between 7 and 30 € per m² depending on the method and thickness of this textured finish. It usually doubles the length of the job, but leaves the wall ready for years.

  • Painting with the furniture in place

    Moving, covering and protecting is charged for: expect a surcharge of up to 20% if you cannot empty the rooms.

Emergency: what to do until the painter arrives

In painting, the rush is usually a key handover or a flat that needs to be let straight away. What speeds things up most is having the colour decided and emptying the rooms or grouping the furniture before the painter arrives. A room with sound walls can be painted in a day; if there is gotelé or damp, ask for the timeline in writing.
