What a HVAC technician does

An HVAC technician installs, cleans, regasses and repairs air conditioning units, heat pumps and ventilation systems. Handling refrigerant gas requires an F-gas certificate; without one, nobody should open up your unit's refrigerant circuit.

Most requested jobs for a HVAC technician

  • Installing a split unit

Fitting the indoor and outdoor units, running the refrigerant line, the condensate drain and the electrical connection. The price depends mainly on the length of the line and the height of the façade.

  • Service and cleaning

Cleaning the filters and coil, checking the pressures and the drain. Doing it before summer prevents most July breakdowns.

  • Regassing

If the unit is losing gas there is a leak, and a regas on its own does not last long. Ask for the leak to be found and fixed first.

  • Fault: not cooling or dripping

It is usually a blocked drain, a dirty coil or low gas. The diagnosis is charged as a call-out.

Emergency: what to do until the HVAC technician arrives

If the air conditioning is dripping indoors, switch it off and put something underneath to catch the water: it is almost always a blocked condensate drain. If it is not cooling, check before calling that it is in cooling mode, that the filters are not clogged and that nothing is blocking the air outlet of the outdoor unit. If the RCD trips when you switch it on, do not keep trying.
